Christmas 1965

December 23, 2003

Here is Grandma’s Christmas poem from 1965. Enjoy.

Christmas 1965

MANY MANY YEARS AGO
ON A QUITE NITE,
SHEPHERDS WATCHED THEIR FLOCKS
WHILE STARS ABOVE SHONE BRIGHT.

MUSIC SEEMED TO FILL THE AIR
THE ANGELS CAME TO SING
THE SAID "TO YOU, A KING IS BORN"
THIS MESSAGE, THEY DID BRING.

IN THE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM
MANY MILES AFAR
THE SHEPHERDS FOLLOWED ALL THE WAY
LED BY A "SHINNING STAR."

IN A STABLE, EVER SO SMALL
IN A MANGER FILLED WITH HAY
THEY SAW THE CHIRST CHILD LAYING
THEY FELL TO THEIR KNEES IN PRAY.

AS CHRISTMAS DAY APPROACHES
AND BUSY AS WE ARE,
LET'S DON'T FORGET THE "REASON"
REMEMBER THE "SHINING STAR."

FOR GOD WAS BORN TO US THAT DAY
TO TEACH US MANY THINGS
AMONG HIS MANY PRICELESS GIFTS
HIS LOVE TO USE HE BRINGS.

SO LET US KNEEL, AS MEN DID THEN
OUR THANKS LET US REVEAL
AS WE CELEBRATE HIS BIRTHDAY
FOR HIM THE CHURCH BELLS PEAL.

Sarah is Pregnant

December 22, 2003

Sarah and I just got back from the doctor. Sarah is 12 weeks pregnant with a healthy little boy or girl. We have known for some time, but have been trying to keep quite until we got to see the doctor. The doctor said that Sarah and the baby are healthy. I even got to hear the baby’s heart beat, which was beating really fast. It was so amazing. We did not get to see a sonogram yet, but hopefully will get to at our next appointment. The due date is July 8, 2004. We could have a 4th of July baby. It is to early to tell if it is a boy or girl, but we would like to find out before hand.

The Cement Mixer

After the Diego Family Christmas on Sunday, I asked Aunt Cindy if I could borrow the book of Grandma’s poems. I went through the book and scanned in all the poems. My plan is to make them all available to download to everyone in the family. For now, I picked one to put up. Merry Christmas and Enjoy!

Christmas 1965 I gave Dad a Cement Mixer. I really
managed to surprise him. The following is what he
had to go thru to get it.

In a small package under the tree was a St. Christopher
Medal. Inside the box was the following message.

DEAREST "COYOTE"

THIS IS JUST A LITTLE SOMETHING
TO PROTECT YOU WHILE YOU DRIVE
FOR ALL THE SAINTS ABOVE US KNOW
I WANT YOU SAFE AND ALIVE!

IF YOU LOOK BENEATH THE COTTON
ANOTHER POEN YOU'LL FIND
IT'LL SEND YOU ON A JOURNEY
BUT I'M SURE THAT YOU WON'T MIND

WALK INTO THE BEDROOM
LOOK BENEATH THE CHAIR
THERE YOU FIND A PRESENT
IT'S SOMETHING YOU CAN WEAR.	(A DIRTY OLD SOCK)

HOPE YOU LIKE YOUR PRESENT
BUT WAIT THERE'S MOR TO COME
LOOK BEHIND THE TOLIET
YOU'LL FIND YOUR A TIDY SUM!!

WEREN'T THOSE PENNIES EXTRA CLEAN
I REALLY MADE THEM SHINE
NOW LOOK INSIDE THE "REFER"
YOU'LL FIND YOUR FAVORITE WINE.	(BLACKBERRY BRANDY)

GETTING TIRED SWEETIE?
NOT MUCH MORE TO GO
LOOK BEHIND THE CHESTERFIELD
(A GIFT THER I DID STOW)	(A SCREW? TOOTHPICKS, nails)

OUR JOURNEY'S ALMOST OVER
I'M RUNNING OUT OF VERSE
TRY UNLOCKING PEGGY'S DOOR
IT CAN'T GET ANY WORSE!!

In Peg's room, I had hidden the mixer. When Dad
opened the door he saw the mixer with this note attached.

HERE I SIT SO PATIENTLY
WHAT TOOK YOU SO DARN LONG?
I WANT TO GET TO WORKING
AND SING THE "POTSY" SONG.

Preparing for Tyler!

December 9, 2003

The Diego girls gathered to shower Traci in baby gifts this past weekend. Lori, Lisa and Cindy really worked hard to make this event special. There were two gifts that had everyone in tears- Vicki gave Traci the last baby blanket that her mother, Peggy, crocheted. Traci gave everyone at the shower Christmas ornaments that her mother started, and she completed. Tyler is a lucky boy, growing into such a sweet family.
